Calling All Bird Lovers!

Do you know your Turdus Pilaris from your Botauris Stellaris? Every year we take part as a farm in the GWCT Big Farmland Bird Count BFBC

The BFBC is a great way to measure how many birds we have on the farm and you don’t need to be a latin scholar or even an ornithologist. Just look and listen. The count takes place on any day from now until the 19^th February. So, please, if you are out for a romantic stroll over our farm, tell us at Charrington’s what birds you see and how many. You can take part by just sending us a message or by completing the GWCT form and sending to us – you can also use their handy guide at BFBC if you are a bit rusty! We are definitely not professional twitchers but we have loved the easy accessibility of this annual study and it is all about just taking the time to appreciate what is around us.

We pick 30 minutes early morning ideally when it is not raining and our favourite place is over by the reservoir where, if we are lucky, we will see the Heron out fishing and watch the hundreds of Fieldfare swoop and dive over the fields. Look out for the Skylark in the more open spaces and listen for the Buzzard’s mewing as it soars high above looking for breakfast.
