Chill out! Spring Is In The Air!
Half term is over! Parents you can now relax as the kids go back to school!
If you managed that romantic or family walk in half term, you may have spotted the daffodils are coming into flower. The theory is that spring is just around the corner!
And don’t put your Valentine’s cards away just yet. We think it shouldn’t be just one day so we have kept our amazing £10 off when you spend £60 throughout February.
Just Chilling!
Farming is as unpredictable as the weather and our advice is to enjoy the good days as we often get winter chills well into March. Last year our first blossom walk was in 8 degrees followed by the hottest summer for 40 years.
Look out on our News & Events section and social media for our Blossom Farm Walks at the end of April/beginning of May. We do these regularly while in bloom with a leisurely walk followed by a Charringtons Drinks tasting session. If you are a member of a group or society and you fancy getting together for some cider tasting (and some gentle walking!), please let us know as we will book you in.

In fact, chilling out is as essential for our trees as it is for us. They need the winter “chill hours” to help them go fully dormant and know what season they are moving into and when to move. Chill hours are generally the number of hours between November and March where the temperature stays below 7 degrees but above 0. Trees generally don’t feel the wind like we do so it is the cumulative effect of prolonged falling or rising soil and air temperatures that activate the trees natural sensors.
The chill hours required varies by apple variety, with older varieties like Cox needing approximately 1300 chill hours, while Gala only needs half at 650 hours.
There’s nothing like a lovely cider to enjoy the early signs of spring so make sure you have your orders in by Wednesday for guaranteed weekend delivery. We’ll always do our best to deliver locally on late orders so please put in the notes if you are in need.
Cryals Classic Sparkling Cider
Our award-winning, medium Cryals Classic Sparkling Cider has a pale lemon colour with a fine bead of bubbles and a ripe apple aroma. We ferment it in small batches from a blend of Cox, Bramley and Russet apples (ABV 5.3%).
It’s delightfully fresh with a super balance of crispness and fruitiness. Very full in the mouth and the finish has a lovely hurrah of sweetness to it. Serve chilled.
