Valentine’s Day is fast approaching!
So this week we are going to explore all matters of the
heart.

Apples can play a real role in helping prevent heart disease. Every three minutes
someone in the UK dies of a heart or circulatory related disease – that is a quarter of all deaths (source British Heart Foundation). There are 8 million of us in the UK who are suffering but thankfully surviving.
Apples are not the cure-all – but they do play a vital role in a healthy lifestyle. Consciously
choosing to make an apple part of your day is half the battle as it likely replaces something
less healthy, delivers multiple benefits for your heart and forms part of your healthy
lifestyle. Consuming apples (daily in moderation) helps manage your weight, reduce your
BMI and your cholesterol. Seriously!
Apples naturally contain high concentrations of
“bioactive” and polyphenol compounds like dietary fibre (discussed last week), flavonoids
(e.g. Quercetin) and antioxidants – all of which play an important role in reducing
cardiovascular diseases. More on these in future weeks.
Valentine’s Day is 2 weeks away – awkwardly on a Tuesday and will likely raise our blood pressure a little.
We have some great suggestions for you this week to reduce the anxiety of the 2 weeks
before and help the day (or weekend) start well and finish well. Take the stress out by ordering early!
Make Breakfast for the one you love – even if you
burn the toast, it is the thought that counts! Our apple juices are the perfect start to any day and our single variety juices
– Captivating Cox, Ravishing Russet, Cheerfull Gold and Amazing Zari all have
individual characteristics – pick the one that best matches.
Take the time for a lunchtime or weekend walk – temperatures are due to stay below 10 degrees through
February – so why not wrap up warm and head out on a romantic walk and take a flask with our Red
Peppercorn and Hibiscus mulled juice or cider for a heart-warming tipple.
