Linking Environment And Farming
Linking Environment And Farming (or LEAF for short) is a leading global organisation delivering more sustainable food and farming. Here at Cryals Farm we’re fully LEAF accredited. LEAF works with farmers, the food industry, scientists and consumers to inspire and enable sustainable farming. It helps farmers produce good food, with care and to high environmental standards by developing and promoting the sustainable farming practices of Integrated Farm Management (IFM).
The LEAF Marque: This standard is an environmental assurance system recognising sustainably farmed products. When you see The LEAF Marque Standard logo, you can be sure it comes from a farm practising sustainable agriculture. It has been developed in consultation with scientists, the farming industry and conservation groups. It reflects the most up to date understanding of internationally accepted sustainable farm management science and management based around Integrated Farm Management. (IFM).
Integrated Farm Management (IFM)
This is a whole farm business approach that delivers more sustainable farming. It uses the best of modern technology and traditional methods to deliver prosperous farming that enriches the environment and engages local communities. LEAF’s IFM is made up of nine core principles which together, address the entire farming business – including soil and water management, energy efficiency, crop health and protection and landscape and nature conservation.
At Charrington’s we have always been dedicated to growing the best quality apples (first and foremost we’re a supplier of Class 1 eating apples to the supermarkets), while at the same time protecting and carefully managing our farm environment.
